[Music] hello Auggie's worldwide I'm Dave Kessler amateur radio call sign ke 0og here with episode number 274 of ask Dave this is another stay-at-home special and today instead of showing fancy charts and graphs and curves we're going to do something very simple this is an introduction to so-called UHF connectors which is the generic term that's used for PL 259 in the Esso 239 just kind of look at them see how they work what they do the term UHF is a misnomer was applied back in the 1930s when coaxial cable was developed and these connectors were done at the time UHF meant anything about 30 megahertz of course we stick VHF in there now and UHF is anything above 300 megahertz these connectors are poo-pooed by a lot of people you know who want to be seen as especially brilliant I suppose they actually do work pretty well in the United States they are ubiquitous on all full powered radios
