hello and welcome to rhythms of the refuge I'm Kelly Blackledge with Tamarack National Wildlife Refuge and today we're gonna take a hike through the woods and take a look at wildflowers spring wildflowers can be just spectacular and what a great time to get out into nature is early in the spring after a long winter we're going to be taking a look at ephemeral flowers those are the woodland flowers that start to bloom through the woods early in the spring and usually have a short blooming period in the woods when you have leaves that aren't quite out yet there's a lot of sunlight that can penetrate to the woodland floor this sunlight then will allow an opportunity for the flowers or the soils to warm up and flowers to grow this is the woodpecker trail on the wildlife Drive you can see how there's no leaves out but lots of green across the woodland floor this is when the early ones really
