hello my name is Brett Logsdon welcome to the lesson on the steel rule it's the very first lesson that we're going to cover in our metrology course CMM 118 and I'd just like to go over a couple things with you first we have the standard steel rule this one on the board is graduated in 30 seconds and 60 force and as we read this we're basically reading exactly what is on the rule so if we happen to have a number or a scythe that ends up right here all we do is count the 30 seconds so this is 30 to 30 seconds right here so right here would be 12 13 14 15 30 seconds well that's pretty easy but now sometimes we get an even number and we do need to reduce so for instance if we had a measurement that led us here we would have 28 30 seconds and then we were this we just merely cut the numbers in two so it will be 14 16 or 7 8 so what we're doing is just cutting both the numerator and denominat
