[Music] hey everybody its Becky Stern here at Adafruit where today we're talking about electroluminescent materials e.l wire for short is a stiff wire coated in an electrically sensitive phosphor lights up like neon it comes in a bunch of different colors it's one of our favorite ways to make projects glow so here's how il wire works smaller wires wrap around the phosphor inside the PVC sheathing called corona wires alternating current applied across the inner and outer wires makes the phosphor glow al tape and panel work in a similar way we're two layers of a dielectric materials sandwich a layer of phosphor al materials are great for adorning wearable projects like a fun animal mask or a hooded sweatshirt since al tape and panel conducts evenly over the whole plane you can cut it or mask it with vinyl to make any shape you want as long as the cut shape is contiguous with the power con
