hi this is bill for sparky channel and today i have a question regarding 20 amp versus 15 amp receptacles and what i'd like to do right away before i start giving opinions and so forth i'm gonna go right to the code the 2020 nec code it's 210.21 b three receptacle ratings for various size circuits you see this is a 20 amp receptacle this is rated at 15 amps let's see so we got 15 amp receptacle 20 amp receptacle when do you use these two reciprocals so i've got the code right here circuit rating amperes when the circuit is 15 amps you're not to use a receptacle over 15 amps so if this was a 14 2 with ground and it was a 15 amp circuit breaker i could not use this 20 amp receptacle just like it says right here in the code if it's if the circuit rate is 15 not over 15. so i'd have to use one of these a 15 amp receptacle now we jump down here to 20 amps and it says you can use 15 or a 20 a
