- Hi, I'm Jordan from Kettner Creative. In this video, I'm gonna show you that an XLR to USB cable, like this one only works well with one type of microphone. For this video, we're gonna use a Shure SM58, which is a handheld dynamic microphone. We're also gonna use the Shure SM7B, which is a more of a studio dynamic microphone. It's extremely popular for podcasts and home recording and the AKGC3000B which is a wide diaphragm, condenser microphone. So first, before we get started, I'm gonna plug this into the computer so you can hear what each microphone sounds like. So on the computer, we're gonna open our system preferences. We're gonna select our sound settings, and then we're gonna select the USB audio device that we just plugged in. The first microphone that we're gonna test is the AKG, wide diaphragm, condenser, microphone. You plug that in, then you turn the volume on the computer
