Board Specs:
48" x 7.25" x .75" (3/4 inch thick). (That's not a typo. these boards are 4 feet long.)
Boards are tapered on both ends.
Boards have two pockets cut-out handles.
Borards have a radius on all ends and in pocket cut-out handles (all the corners have a radius expect for tapered ends.) This feature does not compromise the board strength, makes for gentler placement, and protects your clothing so they do not snag or rip.
Stained boards are stained darker on the ends to 6 inches in. This gives you, the user (what we call an anchor.) It shows you how much of the board you should have under you and shows you how much of the board you should have as your destination point. Leaving you with a maximum of 36 inches of surface area to make your transfer.
All boards are sealed with a minimum of 10 protective layers/coats of shellac to enable easier sliding.
Board weight capacity 500 LBS.
Board weight 5.3 LBS.
Made out of solid White Oak wood.
Just a little back story.
I have a form of Muscular Dystrophy and I am permanently confined to a wheelchair.. I had used those smaller boards and discovered how dangerous they are to the user. They would catch on a pocket and I'd fall on the floor. I don't know many times I called non-emergency 911 for their help to get me back in to my wheelchair.
So I made a better, stronger & SAFER transfer board.
My 4 foot board has changed my life.
