Most turmeric and curcumin supplements simply don't work... There are A LOT of turmeric supplements on the market, however, many of them are not at all effective. The active ingredients in turmeric root are powerful phytochemicals called curcumionoids, as well as essential oils called turmerones. Turmeric root is actually only 2 - 5% curcuminoids by weight, and is also very low in the essential oil compounds. Because of this, most turmeric supplements are extremely lacking in the bioactive components of turmeric that offer all of turmeric's wonderful health benefits. Did you know that curcumin is notoriously NOT bioavailable? That's right, curcumin has famously poor absorption, biodistribution, metabolism, and bioavailability. Many curcumin supplements not only have low percentages of the useful bioactive compounds, but they also are very poorly absorbed.
