Dvorak studied letter frequencies and the physiology of people's hands and created a layout to adhere to these principles: It is easier to type letters alternating between hands. For maximum speed and efficiency, the most common letters and digraphs should be the easiest to type. This means that they should be on the home row, which is where the fingers rest, and under the strongest fingers. Likewise, the least common letters should be on the bottom row, which is the hardest row to reach. The right hand should do more of the typing, because most people are right-handed. It is more difficult to type digraphs with adjacent fingers than non-adjacent fingers. Stroking should generally move from the edges of the board to the middle. An observation of this principle is that, for many people, when tapping fingers on a table, it is easier going from little finger to index than vice versa. Currently, all major Operating Systems (such as Apple OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux and BSD) ship with Dvorak keyboard layout in addition to the standard QWERTY layout. so last night I did make my switch over to the Dvorak keyboard layout so that's on my works computer my personal computer my cell phone and my tablet my plan is I'm going all-in so there's going to be no QWERTY in my life for the next next three to five weeks I printed off individual stickers for all of the new keys and put them on my work keyboard like obviously on my mobile devices they have a software screen software keyboard and I've also printed out cheat sheets like this I'm switching to the Dvorak layout and I'm interested in accuracy or typing speed increase as a side benefit I'm hoping that they'll be a little bit less restrained because I've had some wrist pendants type of issues so copying and pasting for me is normally you know Mouse in the right hand control V control see when I'm holding control with my left pinky and doing the C and the V with my left index C and V on the
