Hi there. I'm Mark Mullins speaking to you from
the Fluke Networks Technical Assistance Center or the TAC is we like to call it. We recently had a customer that was trying
to identify fibers on a long run that was about 20 kilometers and figuring out
which ones were connected at each end and trying to solve the problem.
Now, one simple way to do something like
that is to use a visual fault locator. Visual fault locator puts a visible light signal onto the fiber and then you can see it at the other end just like that. Now we don't recommend looking into the
fiber because if it's not the visual fault locator at the other end,
but instead some sort of powerful source, you could damage your eye. Now that works really well on
links up to about four kilometers. What happens when I put it in a much
longer fiber link like this one here? What's put it in and we'll turn it on? Can't see if there'
