Description
Astragalus root, also called Huang Qi (literally yellow senior) in Chinese name, is a common herb that is frequently used in traditional Chinese medicine. In addition to its extensive medicinal uses, this herb is also one important ingredient in many popular Cantonese soup recipes for the purpose of tonifying. This herb refers to the dried roots of Astragalus membranaceus, which the plant of the family Fabaceae. In China, it is mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Heilongjiang and other places. Habitats include sunny grass and hillsides. The flower period is from June to July and fruiting period is from July to September. Usually medicinally it is harvested during spring and autumn. Next, remove its fibrous roots and head, dry in the sun, slice, and it raw or stir fried with honey.
