When it comes to Jayhawks, well, a lot. ♪music♪ It all started in the 1850s. The Kansas territory was entering the Union as a free state in the bloody buildup to the civil war and the name "Jayhawker" came to be associated with the abolitionists who settled the area. But why that name? You won't find a Jayhawk in nature, but it's most likely an imaginary offspring of two real birds: the trouble-making Blue Jay, known the rob other birds' nests, and the Sparrow Hawk, a small, but fierce, hunter.
