we're here in 2016 and everybody predicted by their graphs that 10 GT would be the winner for 10 gig Ethernet but right now it's still not quite not there 10 GT still uses a lot of power in about 5 to 10 watts per port the switches manufacturers really haven't deeply discounted in 10 GT yet the cable being cat 6 being a little bit less expensive really isn't quite there either right now you're going to have a hard time buying your cat 6 cable and it's going to cost you about five to 12 dollars per cable an SFP+ card cable right now is 12 to 20 dollars for the same amount of length so there's really little cable cost difference if you're only talking about 4 to 5 dollars port port savings we're finding that because 10 GT had a separate high power mac or media access control area everything took a little bit more power than 10 GT the cards are a little bit more expensive the heat sinks ar
