this is the Flyn scientific high school compound microscope there are several numbers and letters on each of the objectives take a minute and talk about what those numbers and letters mean the first number is always a whole number that's the magnification of that objective to get the total magnification you multiply the magnification of the subjective times the magnification of the eyepiece the next number is a decimal number this is the numerical aperture for the light gathering ability of the lens some objectives are retractable this is helpful in case the stage is raised too high it avoids cracking the slide other objectives say oil this stands for oil immersion never use oil on an objective that does not say as it can permanently damage it for any other questions about numbers or markings that you see on the objectives give us a call you'd be happy to help you
