Hey guys this is Martin again from SIRS-Electronics. And today I wanted to talk about the differences between 5 pin DMX and 3 pin DMX. A lot of you may question what the difference is and. Why there is such a variation from interfaces to fixtures. And different products that involve DMX. The main reason why DMX was originated invented being a 5 pin. Was to differentiate from audio and lighting signals. The reason being is because if you were to plug in a DMX fixture. With an audio signal or vice-versa you could actually damaged the equipment. DMX 5 pin has five pins obviously. Pins 4 and 5 are usually used for secondary data or other things that different. Companies may find a use for. But now on days most companies just use pins 1, 2, and 3. Pin 1 is usually the ground. Pin 2 is the data negative. And pin 3 is the positive. So that is the main reason why the DMX pin outs varies.
