The Nikon AF-S 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is
an extreme 10.7x wide-angle/telephoto zoom lens, part of Nikkor’s AF-S G lineup;
near the top of the line as a do-it-all, always with you, large zoom lens. At 83 x 116mm of 800 grams of mostly plastics
and some metals, the first thing we notice on the 28-300mm AF-S zoom is the exotic feedback;
this is not your everyday zoom lens, and you can truly feel “something extra” in your
hands. Take the zoom ring, for example: well damped,
large, rubberized and smooth, it’s significantly better put together than the recently tested
AF-S 70-300mm G zoom, expanding the metal-like dual-cam zoom mechanism, effortlessly from
28mm to 300mm. Inside Nikon adds its excellent SWM - silent
wave motor - that, again, feels better than most sub-US$1000 lenses. Here tested with the D750, it felt precise
and quieter than similar SWM primes, despite not being particular
