Description
Eschscholzia californica is a perennial or annual herb. The stem is straight or branched 5-60 cm tall, smooth, sometimes bluish in color. Taproot is powerful. Leaves are basal and stem, segmented, with rounded or acuminate lobes. The flower is solitary with yellow to orange petals, usually with an orange spot at the base, 20-60 mm. It blooms from February to September. The flower closes at night and in cold windy weather, and opens again in the morning, but can remain closed if the weather is cloudy. The fruit is a box of 3-9 cm, the seeds are small from brown to black, 1.5-1.8 mm, reticulated. Passiflora, known also as the passion flowers or passion vines, is a climbing vine native to South Texas, Mexico, and Central America. Growing to a length of 9 m under ideal conditions, the vine bears three-lobed leaves, purple flowers, and yellow-to-orange egg-shaped fruit. The blue vervain or verbena is a creeping perennial of the mint family, bearing numerous, small lilac-blue flowers. Verbena hastata is native to North America and is incredibly similar in appearance and properties to its European cousin Verbena officinalis, whom it is often mistaken for.
