today we're going to discuss how to use a step up or step down transformer in the u.s. to get 220 volts to use European type appliances typically when used in the u.s. you're trying to step up 110 115 or 120 volts ac to 220 volts ac so you can use these devices or use a 220 volt AC device it's confusing when you buy one of these for use in the US as it comes with what's called a new euro plug or schuko plug which does not fit into a standard US outlet they also come with the voltage set incorrectly for they use in the US so if you see here these are very heavy you see here the voltage setting is set to 220 volts so what we need to do is we need to set that to 110 volts that way our input is 110 115 120 standard US AC voltage and our output should be 230 so now the next step is we have to convert this into some sort of plug that's usable in the US and for that I bought a nema 5-15 - univ
