In this video we are going to learn about an XLR connector The Xlr is a circular connector with the male part containing a series of metal pins and the female with a set of holes. XLR can come in 3-pin to 7-pin, but the 3-pin is the industry standard for balanced audio connections and is what will be focused on. XLR is typically terminated to a balanced cable with the ground being attached too pin 1, positive lead too pin 2, and negative too pin 3. One of the biggest benefits of using an XLR is the Chassis ground. This pin makes the whole metal case around the xlr a ground, providing extra protection form hums and buzzes in your signal. Another benefit is that it locks when the male and female are connected. This makes it a more secure connection then most audio connectors.
