Supermicro BPN-SAS-213A - Server SATA/SAS Backplane - 2U

[Music] hey everyone yes we are staring at my server again now there's an age-old question ever since anyone started using the super micro 846 chassis for their home server whether it be free nas or unraid or open media vault pick your poison whichever the back plane on this is usually a bpn sas 2 el1 backplane and what this is is a 24 sas or sata drive back plane with the expander built into it so here's my hba card down here on the bottom i have two cables coming on up to it and each one has four lanes now here comes the age-old question connecting one of course works connecting a second one does this backplane actually support eight lanes coming through or dual linking can you get better throughput by connecting eight or does it do absolutely nothing for it that's what we're going to answer today now my server i have a total of 12 10 terabyte hard drives on the array two for parity a
