Product review & video
The Nikkor AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR,
is a standard-zoom lens made for Nikon’s full-frame FX cameras. Introduced in 2012 around the same time as
the low-cost full-frame D600 DSLR, it sits on the lower end of Nikkor’s zoom lineup,
delivering entry-level build quality, operation and optics; all for a fair price. It’s the perfect kit-zoom lens under both
the 24-70mm f/2.8G and the 24-120mm f/4G, delivering a mixed-bag of results. At 78 x 82mm closed at the 24mm focal length,
and at 78 x 110mm opened at the 85mm, the first thing we notice on the AF-S 24-85mm
zoom lens is its size; the smallest 24-something zoom I’ve ever used. The build also uses a fair amount of plastic
on a somewhat sturdy construction, that feels light and portable; despite not being the
smoothest to operate. You see, both the 24mm and 35mm focal lengths
are cramped together on the wide-angle side of the zooming ring
