NARRATOR: There are many ways to sense and measure temperature. The thermocouple is among the most common, direct contact sensors used due to its accuracy, repeatability, low cost, and wide range. The principle of the thermocouple is deceptively simple. When two different metals are in contact with each other, a voltage proportional to temperature will be generated along their junction. But measuring this thermocouple voltage is difficult for several reasons. It's a very low level signal, on the order of microvolts. You also need to measure it and compensate for the temperature where the thermocouple wires contact the connector or circuit board, called cold junction compensation. When using multiple thermocouples, a very common situation, the wiring can become complex, difficult, and costly. Finally, you still have to convert it to a digital value with sufficient resolution and acc
