here is a preserved lantern specimen starting at the quote-unquote head end where you can see that oral cavity again the notochord is very distinctive you can see the papula you can see the pharynx with the gill slits and gill bars as we go down through here you can see the dorsal fin notochord and nerve cord are still visible there you can even see the miomirs of the muscle tissue there's the atriaport and if we keep going there's the anus the tail keeps going and you can really see the myomeres and the fin at the end here so that is a lancelet in cross-section or i guess longitudinal section sagittal plane
