Product review & video
Welcome to SCHOTT Microscopy. My name is Christian Zawar. Today, I would like to explain the difference between
the two main techniques of illumination used in stereomicroscopy: On the one hand, fiber optic illumination and
cold light sources such as our KL series, on the other hand, direct LED illumination
as in our EasyLED and VisiLED series. Stereomicroscope illumination has its origin in fiber optic illumination. Back in 1960, in other words almost 60 years ago, SCHOTT introduced the first cold light source
equipped with fiber optic light guides to the market. Over this long period of time, fiber optic illumination
has established itself as the standard due to the many different light guides and its
compatibility with all common stereomicroscopes. The light emitted by a cold light source is guided
to the sample via glass fiber light guides. In the fiber itself, the li
