well tonight it is a great pleasure to introduce dr. mark Hildebrand now mark started his scientific career at the State University of New York in Syracuse where he received his BS in chemistry and then he changed feel slightly he moved west to the University of Arizona where he did his PhD in biochemistry and he finished that in 1987 and then he came to Scripps to do his postdoctoral research and he was a scholar here working with dr. Benjamin Val Carney and he stayed he must have liked it here a lot he's currently an associate project scientist in the marine biological research division where he conducts some extremely interesting research it's very highly in fact cross-disciplinary and it involves research work in the fields of diatom molecular biology genomics biotechnology nanotechnology among other areas he's really a very varied research and does an awful lot of different things
