The DVD 22 achieves a remarkable new level of progressive-scan video playback quality when used with a high-definition or HD-ready television or display, thanks to digital pixel-by-pixel processing. This processing upconverts images to progressive-scan one pixel at a time, rather than one line at a time, as conventional DVD players do. The DVD 22 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.
