Okay, if you're like me you've had the tip of a headphone jack snap off inside your smartphone So what actually happened here? Mine here was a cheap Chinese replacement which I got because the original was corroded. Well this thing just snapped! So here's the part you're looking at in the diagram. That metal core should insert into the tip down here. There's little insulator sleeves which fell out ...and this little ring here. The metal core should pass through all three of them. These are little spring loaded contacts, they look like little ball bearings stuck in the walls of the jack. The tip should be latched on this lowest contact point with the little lip you see here. It's this little lip that causes the tip to remain stuck down in the hole Here's another replacement plug.
