The Motorola DS9208 corded omnidirectional LED desktop barcode reader is black, comes with a 7' USB cable, and can be used to scan and decode linear one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D), and Portable Document Format 417 (PDF417) barcodes. The barcode reader can be held in the hand or placed on a counter or surface for fixed position use. A 625-nanometer (nm) laser produces lines of light in an omnidirectional pattern to scan barcodes on labels or cell phone screens at different angles. A spherical window reduces stray light and reflections for scanning accuracy. The multi-code function enables the barcode reader to capture a group of barcodes at once and output the data in a predetermined order. The 7' USB cable plugs into the USB port of a computer or another host system (sold separately) to transmit barcode data and power the barcode reader. Motorola Remote Scanner Management software (available separately for download) can be used by an administrator to manage the device remotely. This product weighs 9.5 oz. and measures 5.512 x 3.232 x 3.150 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) It can withstand drops of up to 5'. For a complete set of product specifications, please see the manufacturer's brochure.
Barcode scanners, also known as barcode readers, can be used to scan and decode barcodes and to transmit barcode data to a computer or another host system. Barcode readers with a single-line laser can be used to scan linear, one-dimensional (1D) barcodes. Some lasers can produce light in an omnidirectional pattern to allow scanning of barcodes from different angles. Other barcode readers contain CCD (charge-coupled device) light sensors instead of a laser for accuracy and wear resistance.
