THE TONGUEOMETERThe Tongueometer is an affordable, at-home device designed to measure and increase tongue strength and endurance by patients with dysphagia under the guidance of their healthcare professional. The Tongueometer allows users to:Perform your dysphagia rehabilitation at home or on the go.Objectively measure tongue strength and endurance.Easily set exercise settings based on recommendations from your healthcare professional.Store and share your exercise results with your healthcare professional with the click of a button. Assessment & TreatmentThe Tongueometer application features two assessment modules designed to measure maximum tongue strength and endurance. These assessment modules can help determine appropriate settings for the exercise modules. The application also features two exercise modules designed to increase tongue strength and endurance. Measuring Maximum StrengthThe Tongueometer maximum strength module assesses the maximum pressure that the user can produce by pressing an air-filled bulb against the roof of the mouth with the tongue. Using the Tongueometer app, the maximum pressure is clearly displayed on the user’s smartphone or tablet. The maximum strength is measured in pressure units called kilopascals (kPa). Measuring Maximum EnduranceThe Tongueometer measures maximum tongue endurance by assessing the length of time that a user can maintain a tongue pressure within a set pressure range of his or her maximum pressure (typically 60-80% of his or her maximum strength). The Tongueometer app clearly displays and records the length of time, measured in seconds, that a user maintains pressure within the set range.
