[Music] hey everybody its Jason bring Hearst with professional cable and today I am talking to you about some older cable technologies but cables that we still sell a lot the first one is what's what's called a serial cable and no that's not something you have with your toast for breakfast sorry a little cable humor there folks serial cable sometimes called rs-232 most commonly it's a db9 9 pin connector and these can be in male to male which you see here pins on both sides or male the female which one side would be a socket and then female the female which both sides would be the sockets and these are like I said generally 9 pin sometimes 25 pin configurations it's a straight through cable meaning that pin 1 on one side goes to pin one on the other side pin 2 to pin 2 and so forth that's a straight through serial cable or rs-232 the other version which you cannot tell very easily just
