[Music] an ultra tape is basically a handmade product done just a few at a time small batches in real time there's no high-speed duplication of any kind if you're used to the old reel-to-reel tapes that you would buy in the 1670s 80s those are mass-produced at high speed on low quality tape and that degrades the sound quality tremendously here it's all done in real time so if we're cutting an 18 minute LP side it takes 18 minutes to run every single copy currently we're cutting a Hugh Masekela album and this is a 33 minute tape side and so it takes 33 minutes for this to run we have very high quality tape stock we hand leader all the reels ourselves here in the studio the Masters that we use our 30 IPS half-inch two-track masters going to a 15 IPS two-track quarter-inch tape which lines up in the customers hands at the end of the day the tape copies are all made on these fully restored
