this is Doug Hornburg and welcome back to that little tip and trick and today I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the hummingbird GPS HS with a heading sensor this has an electronic compass in it and as you look at it there's an arrow up here that is going to be pointed to the direction that your boat is pointing straight ahead so when you're looking at your GPS on your unit you know where your boat is pointed at all times to the north reference now there's one problem with this type of DPS receiver it is a electromagnetic compass so it's going to work just like a regular compass but there is electromagnetic fields that can be present on your boat one of the biggest ones right here your trouble motor so what you want to do is take your compass and walk around your boat and I'm going to show you how it changes get you a cheap little compass you can buy these things for hardly not
