before starting any electrical project make sure power is turned off at your electrical panel remove the wallplate from the wall and remove the mounting screws connecting the existing switch to the mounting box next disconnect the existing wires by loosening the terminal screws on the existing switch now you're ready to install the new occupancy sensor first connect the ground wire on the device to the ground wire in the electrical box the ground wire is always either colored green or bare copper wire connect the ends of the two wires and secure them with a wire nut next connect the hat or line wires in the same way these wires are typically black and they bring power from the electrical panel to the sensor now install the supply wire which carries the power to the load which is typically a lighter fan the supply wire is usually white but it can be other colors once all wires are connec
